My husband whisked me away this past weekend to celebrate our anniversary. His parents came to watch the kids for us. Thank you very much Gary and Cheryl-- we had a great time!
Upon our arrival home our kids came rushing us with gifts they had picked out for us. They didn't want to wait, we had to open them right then. Justin handed us his first. It was beautifully wrapped and inside was a candle. It was one of those that has 3 layers, a light color, then medium, and then the darker color at the bottom. We gave him a kiss and told him thank you.
It was time for Dallas to give us her gifts. As she passed them to me she said, " I have 2 so that each of you can open one." Justin, feeling sad now because he didn't get 2 for us, said " See how rude she is?" He looked so sad. I instantly said what God put on my heart, " Justin but your gift is special, it has 3 layers- one for me-one for daddy- and one for Jesus, who holds us together.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
Ecclesiastes 4:12
It was just what he needed to hear because his face lit up. He now knew his gift has special meaning. Thank you Jesus for just the right words at just the right time. You never fail me.
Dallas had gotten us a jar candle and a box of milk duds! Aren't kids just so cute?
I put the candles on the mantle and they gave us a wonderful aroma that evening. The 2 of those candles together smell awesome!

I love this post. God has really been dealing with me about being purposeful in my speech and actions...especially with my children. Thanks for the reminder. Whoo, one day at a time, Sweet Jesus!

I am enjoying your blog that I found on Laurie's blog...Women Taking A Stand. Pastor Clayton and Laurie are precious people and if it weren't for her blog...I wouldn't have found yours. I look forward to many more blessings in your writings.
Have a blessed week.

I love coming by here, Cheri. I am so blessed by your posts! I agree with Janet. I love this post, and I, too, need to be more purposeful in my speech and my actions!
What you said to your son is something he can hold onto and one day take into his own marriage! Having Jesus in our marriages is the ONLY way to make it!
Love ya'!

That is so sweet! God is so good for putting words in our mouths sometimes.
Glad you guys got a weekend away. Isn't it great when God gives us just the right words to say to our children to teach them something. I bet he will always remember that whenever he sees a candle now.
How sweet of them. And what a sweet thing to say to your son so he wouldn't feel bad, the Holy Spirit is so quick with just the right thing to say if we will only listen. I'm so glad you were quick with the proper reply to lift his spirits. That is so important to our little ones.
Ok, that was 4 "so's" ya think I could find something better to say, somebody get me a thesaurus!
what a great picture for that little one to see!! Love that...
